Uber, Lyft and Doordash have launched a campaign to pass an initiative that would limit the impact of AB 5, a new California law that seeks to increase the number of workers entitled to protections for employees under California law. If passed by voters next year, the initiative would add new provisions to the Business & Professions Code to make it clear that app-based drivers are to be considered independent contractors if certain minimum requirements are met, including an earnings guarantee of 120 percent of the applicable minimum wage, and the establishment of an appeal process for drivers whose contracts are terminated by a company maintaining a platform for app-based drivers.

Information about the initiative, including the full text of the provisions to be adopted, is available at protectdriversandservices.com.
